  MSF team will first establish an isolation unit in the hospital, where infected people will be treated, Once the isolation area is in place and the medical staff is trained on strict bio-security measures, the treatment of patients can start. Activities will include contacting the community to detect new cases, to separate suspected cases and confirmed patients, palliative treatment of patients in the isolation unit and, eventually, the burials.

Development Of Simple And Rapid Diagnostic Tools Key For Fighting Tuberculosis

Abu Dhabi, Tuesday March 22nd 2005 – Without a simple, rapid test for detecting tuberculosis, care providers in developing countries will continue to miss about half of all the people who need TB treatment. Efforts to control TB globally will be undermined, said Fouad Ismael, Executive Director of the medical humanitarian organisation Médecins Sans Frontières in the UAE.

DIHAD 2005: MSF Exhibition: 24 Years in Afghanistan

  During Dubai International Humanitarian Aid & Re-Development Conference (DIHADchr41 from 5th to 7th April 2005, MSF will be displaying pictures about its humanitarian activities in Afghanistan depicting 24 years of presence at the side of the Afghan population, both in the MSF stand and in a special exhibition room within the convention centre at the World trade centre of Dubai. MSF volunteers and staff will be giving out leaflets about MSF work in Afghanistan.

  “In line with the efforts deployed, MSF UAE had organised in 2003 a regional conference in Abu Dhabi, on access to essential drugs for neglected diseases among which tuberculosis. Again in April 2005, we will be discussing under the topic “challenges and new partnerships”, this fatal issue, in order to identify new opportunities in the region, during the DIHAD, international humanitarian conference, to be held in Dubai, said Fouad Ismael.
